ICYMI: “Tribute Held For Victims And Survivors Of Crime”

A tribute to victims and survivors of crime was held Friday.

The event at the Mission Memorial Auditorium allowed survivors to share their personal stories with friends and loved ones, and honor those who did not survive as an outcome of a crime.

A couple of quilts were also put together with survivors’ artwork and were on display. The public also brought flowers to honor their loved ones and were given an opportunity to add names to a commemorative display.

One of the sponsoring groups for the event, Marsy’s Law for Hawaii, is a national movement to push for constitutional protections for victims of crimes. Hawaii is one of just 18 states without a constitutional provision protecting victims’ rights.
