Marsy’s Law Clears Our First Hurdle in The Senate!

We are officially moving forward! Marsy’s Law for Kentucky, also known as Senate Bill 175was heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday morning and passed favorably out of the committee! The bill will soon be heard on the Senate floor – be sure to stay tuned to our social media channels for updates.

I’m so grateful for our advocates and the wonderful group of supporters we have behind Marsy’s Law! Eileen Recktenwald, executive director of the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs (KASAP), and Meg Garvin, executive director of the National Crime Victim Law Institute both took time out of their very busy schedules and joined me in Frankfort on Thursday to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Each provided wonderful testimony about the importance of passing this in our state. Meg shared important legal insight, and was a tremendous resource as she fielded questions from the Committee about the impact of Marsy’s Law. Eileen was able to share some real examples and stories that she and her staff at KASAP encounter each and every day, helping to humanize the need for this legislation in our state. We were also joined by Rob Sanders, president of the Kentucky Commonwealth’s Attorneys Association, who spoke in favor of Marsy’s Law for Kentucky.

I could not be more grateful for our advocates and the amazing network we’re building here. I’m thrilled to see this through to the next step in the process and can’t wait to share more news and updates over the coming weeks!
