Sheriff Pat Heinert on the Issue of Revictimization
Victims in North Dakota are often forgotten or revictimized by the criminal justice system. Sheriff Pat Heinert has seen this system up-close and believes Marsy’s Law would’ve made a difference for victims in some of the cases he has experienced. Says Heinert:
As a Sheriff in North Dakota, I’ve seen innocent people devastated by crime. And when victims are denied equal rights, they are too often revictimized, and that’s wrong.
Marsy’s Law gives crime victims the fundamental rights they deserve, including:
- The right to be heard.
- The right to be notified.
- The right to restitution.
- The right to be free from harassment.
Marsy’s Law for North Dakota, Measure 3, will give crime victims the equal rights they deserve.
