The Marsy’s Law for South Dakota campaign is off to a remarkable start!  We announced our grassroots campaign for an initiated constitutional amendment to strengthen and expand crime victim rights last August. 

Thereafter, we started our petition drive to get our amendment on the general election ballot in 2016 and we were humbled by the outpouring of support we received across the state.   

Recently, on November 3rd, we filed nearly 53,000 signatures; close to double the 27,741 signatures required by law to make the ballot! We were the first initiated ballot question to file petitions and will be identified on the ballot as Constitutional Amendment S. As a result, our campaign message will be encouraging people to “Vote Yes on S.”

Now that our petition drive is complete, we are working on spreading the message about our campaign. South Dakota has some of the weakest crime victim laws in the nation and we are working to strengthen them.  Our campaign is a coalition comprised of citizens, victims, victim’s rights activists and law enforcement officials.
