Marsy’s Law for Montana statement on CI-116 election certification
(Helena, Mont.)—Marsy’s Law for Montana state director Chuck Denowh released the following statement in reaction to the Montana Board of Canvasser’s certifying CI-116 today amid a legal challenge by the ACLU seeking to delay the initiative’s implementation:
“After much delay, the Board of Canvassers has fulfilled their duty in certifying the overwhelming election of Marsy’s Law. We are glad they have abandoned their previous attempts to subvert what should be a routine, ministerial process.”
“On Election Day, voters overwhelmingly approved granting Constitutional rights, effective immediately, to crime victims in Montana. Now, the American Civil Liberties Union is attempting to delay those rights from taking effect, in direct opposition to the popular will of over 325,000 Montanans.”
