MARSY’S LAW TO BE HEARD IN SENATE COMMITTEE WEDNESDAY

Senate Bill 3 to ensure crime victims have constitutional rights

Frankfort, Ky. – Marsy’s Law (SB 3), which would create a Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights in the Kentucky Constitution, will be heard in the Senate State and Local Government Committee Wednesday at 12 Noon in the Capitol Annex. 

The widely supported, bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Whitney Westerfield, will ensure crime victims are treated fairly and afforded rights equal to the accused during the judicial process. Marsy’s Law would give victims commonsense rights, like: the right to a voice in the judicial process, the right to be present in judicial hearings and the right to be made aware of upcoming hearings or changes in their offenders’ status, among others.

Victims’ advocates, Sen. Westerfield and Marsy’s Law State Director Ashlea Christiansen will be available to speak with the press after the hearing.
