Marsy’s Law for Tennessee Passes On The Senate Floor

NASHVILLE, TN – Today, the Tennessee Senate passed Marsy’s Law (HJR 0094). The joint resolution will now go back through the legislature for final passage in the 2025 and 2026 legislative sessions. Marsy’s Law is a proposed constitutional amendment that ensures victims of crime have enforceable rights and protections.

Sponsored by Senator John Stevens (R-Huntingdon), Marsy’s Law is supported in bipartisan efforts and has passed with support from the Tennessee Sheriffs Association, Tennessee Association of Police Chiefs, Tennessee District Attorneys Conference, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

“One of the cornerstones of equal regard for victims is amplifying their voices within the legal system,” said Senator John Stevens. “Victims and their families already endure trauma that very few of us can comprehend. Marsy’s Law makes certain that victims are not re-traumatized by the criminal justice system. I am thrilled with Marsy’s Law’s passage on the Senate Floor and I look forward to next year.”
